STREETS DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
The Streets Department is home to a multitude of street maintenance responsibilities, including the following: snow plowing, patching potholes, repaving projects, mowing, leaf-pickup, roadway obstruction removal, and street sweeping. The Streets Department is also responsible for cleaning and maintaining storm drains (catch basins) that are generally located on the corners of intersections. The Superintendent of the Division of Streets is Dave Reed.
SNOW REMOVAL PLAN
When it snows, the City launches Phase I of a Snow Removal Plan in order to clear snow and ice from the highways, snow emergency routes, and priority streets used in public transportation. Once Phase I is complete, Phase II will commence in which the City will spread salt and calcium chloride, and plow secondary streets.
Snow accumulation exceeding 4 inches will constitue a Snow Emergency. Snow Emergencies will be announced on the City's homepage, and through local radio stations, and newspapers. When a Snow Emergency is declared, Snow Emergency Streets enforcement will begin in which parked vehicles must be removed from the street. (Please see the Snow Emergency Streets Map below for impacted streets.)
