Free Home Inspection and Smoke Detectors

The Newark Fire Department is pleased to announce we have been awarded a 2012 AFG-Fire Prevention Grant ($82,073). This grant will be utilized to enhance fire prevention efforts within the City of Newark. During the recent accreditation review process, the peer assessment team noted that there was an opportunity for NFD improvement in providing safety and education programs to all segments of the community. As the process of accreditation is an ongoing commitment to improvement, this grant will allow the department to improve in this area. The one year grant will fund two additional part time inspectors and is designed to reach out to low income, seniors and disabled residents in our community providing them with free home safety inspections, free smoke detectors and residential lock boxes. In addition to the home safety inspector program, the grant includes one additional part time juvenile fire safety educator to supplement our current staff to provide access, information and rehabilitation to juvenile fire setters in our community. The goal of this project is to reach out to assist as many families in our community as possible and provide safety information and equipment in hopes that it will save a life. If you would like to benefit from this program, call me or one of the Newark Fire Home Safety Inspector(s) at (740) 670-7670 or email an inquiry to bburley AT newarkohio DOT net or thulin AT newarkohio DOT net.

Sincerely,

Jack D. Stickradt Jr.
